I find Vipre easy and accessible.
I run the pro version, but they all work the same.
Here is how I use it.
When you first install it, you’ll have an icon on your desktop, or should. If not you’ll need to locate it in your programs, and make the changes you prefer.
I’ll discuss how to put it were you want it later.
You can put it on the desktop, or in your systems tray.
I prefer it in my systems tray.
From the desktop, click it on, and you hear wait while the application opens.
Once open use the tab key tonavagate to the different sections.
Notice they have check boxes, so simply check the one you wish to use.
On your first run take a look at them all.
You do this by checking the one you want, and continuing to tab to the navigation pane were you find things about it.
Example, if I check the accounts once I tab to the navigation pane, I find my Vipre key, or the place to insert it.
Tab again, I can change it. Tab again, test it.
Tab again, see the expiration date, or the final one if I tab again, and other information
So, basically, if you check a value, then tab, you can control the value you selected.
Note, when inserting the key, just type it, the program will move to the different fields for you as you type.
Next I’ll talk about the different sections, and how you can navigate them, and control them.
Vipre should install with an icon, but if not go to your programs and put it where you’d like it to be.
You put it on your desktop, or in your systems tray just like any other program you use.
My reason for liking it in the systems tray, is it is easy to do say a quick scan, or check on the scan status if I desire.
It is also easier to check for updates, deal with your active protection, and firewall, or even shut it down if you so desire for something you are doing that requires it.
You’ll have few instances were you need to shut it down, but it does happen.
Simply get to it in your tray, and press enter and use the arrow keys to move up or down. You’ll find the options I talked about.
The manage section is where you can control varying things.
Check it to activate.
The difference here, is you don’t have to continue going down with tab to get to navigation, you can just use Control+tab to move to the different control sections.
Once on the control section you desire, continue to tab down to see what is available.
It is pretty extensive, so set it to your hearts content. If you don’t like the results, use the set to defaults to put it back and start over.
The default settings do a good job, but you’ll find you can make it work just the way you want it too.
Pretty simple to control, but a mighty program.
One reason I like it for anyone, is the customer service promise that if you do have a problem, you can get help to fix it.
They also offer a rescue program for free.
You’ll receive newsletters if you desire about the latest happenings related to protection and such.
Is it the best? I can’t say, but for my money, it is worth the price.
I tend to believe these programs are only as good as the people that work behind the scenes keeping them updated, and on guard.
So far, this team has done a good job for me.
It has remained accessible even through the changes and or updates for several years as well, and that is the main thing.
If you have any questions, post them, and I’ll help if possible.
Okay, I'm thinking the free trial version (past the thirty days) doesn't have these options. I think I remember them from back in Feb when I downloaded it.
I'll have to buy it to see. In the meantime, how do you get it to remove viruses it has caught? I think the big problem I had with it was that I could only get it to remove one virus at a time (I could only check one box) and then it would close and the only way I could get back was to restart the program and rescan for viruses again.
Take your time answering as it might be a few days before I download.
Thank you for your help.
Nicely described, Wayne.
The free trial version is exactly like the paid one, so don't buy it to try it.
You don't remove the viruses manually, you just set it up and it does it for you.
You are seeing one, or two things, but these are in what is called quarantine.
In there they are no longer a threat, but put aside in case you disagree.
An example of this will be if you have the email filter set. It might quarantine one or two, but you know they aren’t supposed to be there, so you can select an option to put them back.
To do this go to the manage section.
Put it on antivirus and tab once to manage quarantine.
Press enter, and now you can tab to see them, provided you have any.
You’ll see how to allow them, or remove them permanently
It has an all setting, meaning you select I want to keep all, or I want to remove all.
Remember, if you have it set to delete them from the computer at a set time, and you never check, you simply won’t see them at all.
In my personal experience, I’ve never been missing a file I needed due to the program zapping it.
The reason is it scans files as they come to you.
The best way to manage your files, like music from a source you aren’t sure of, is to download them, but save it first.
Now you can go to that file, and press the applications key, or if running Jaws, and you don’t have one,shift+F10 to open that menu.
Arrow down to scan with Vipre. If you don’t get any complaints from the program, you can now install the file, or use it as you wish.
You’ll note that Vipre comes with a quiet mode. This mode does the work in the background, so you aren’t bothered by the stuff it is zapping.
If you want to know, simply set it so you get asked what you wish to do with whatever.
I personally have mine set to quiet, because of how I suggest you handle incoming files above.
Anything else, I don’t care. Get it!
Remember, Windows also have the user account setting, and you are always asked if you want to run a file before that file runs.
I suggest everyone leave that setting on.
Now you’ve got two walls of protection to keep things from sneaking in on you.
More questions?
Also, I've forgotten to say.
If you do buy it, and hate it, they'll refund your money, but I'd not.
Just do the trial.
Oops, I never replied.
Thank you for all of the helpful information. I somehow missed your last two posts.
If I can help more, please ask.
Will do.
Wow thanks for this. I have it on my puter, but never really used it to its full potential because I couldn't figure out how too.
I'm thinking of putting viper back on my laptop, because it does a better job than Microsoft security, or whatever essentials is called these days. Once I put in my key, copied from the email, I don't find an ok button. Tabbing around just takes me in a circle, from one edit box to the next. What do I do to get viper activated once my key is in?
Yes, Just close it if it doesn't say the key is wrong.
